32km ABOVE SERBIA
On March 3, 2013 the Society for Promotion and Popularization of Science (DPPN) launched a stratospheric balloon with 1.5 kilogram payload to a maximum height of 32 kilometers. From its lofty position almost 4 times higher than Mount Everest one clearly sees Earth’s curvature, as well as many geographical details of Danube river gorge between Serbia and Romania.
DPPN is organization of Serbian science enthusiast actively working promoting science and presenting it to wider public. IPB colleagues Milovan Šuvakov, Branimir Acković and Igor Smolić are part of DPPN.
The baloon project was sponsored by the Center for the Promotion of Science. The project was realized with the kind help of the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia and the Institute of Physics Belgrade.
